Sand
A unique alternative to traditional conference venues, offering a calm, distraction-free space for focus and creativity.
With our backgrounds in music and psychiatry, we believe it is the perfect place to bring these two worlds together. Matt, a classical musician and experienced concert organiser and Gertrude, a psychiatrist, share a vision of creating a space where art and mental wellbeing meet.
Our aspiration is to develop Sand into a cultural centre for arts and mental health—a place where people can come to learn, reflect and feel inspired.
Its intimate and unique atmosphere makes it ideal for meaningful experiences, from live music performances to thought-provoking talks and masterclasses. Here, creativity and psychology come together in a way that encourages connection, reflection and emotional impact.
What Sand Offers
At the heart of the house is the Great Hall, which can host up to 50 people for talks, concerts, and gatherings of all kinds.
The house includes 8 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and 2 kitchens for catering.
These spaces are well suited for hosting key speakers, facilitators, or organisers.
We also have strong relationships with nearby hotels, making it easy to accommodate additional guests. Transportation can be arranged to ensure a smooth and convenient experience for all participants.
There are many opportunities for relaxation and informal connection in the afternoons and evenings, whether through quiet time, shared meals, or gentle activities.
Sand is surrounded by beautiful gardens and set within the rolling hills of East Devon, offering a range of scenic walks. We are located in the village of Sidbury, with its welcoming local pub, and just 15 minutes from Sidmouth—a charming seaside town known for its beaches, cafés, and restaurants.
